AFTER DARK
Oct. 25 and 26
The ghosts of Voices From The Past are coming alive again but this time it is AFTER DARK. Once the sun goes down cemeteries can be rather spooky. Come if you dare and experience walking the grounds of haunted Elmwood Cemetery with our talented storyteller tour guides. You will visit haunted residents whose pasts were filled with horror, tragedies, or malicious acts.
In the dark shadows of the graveyard, you will transcend to another era where centuries-old spirits roam.
Look. Can you see them? Listen. Do you hear them?
An additional ticket will take you ghost-hunting with the Charlotte Area Paranormal Society (CAPS). They are hosting three 1-hour ghost-hunting experiences in Elmwood Cemetery. This is a rare opportunity to connect with the real spirits of Elmwood. Numerous stories from visitors and cemetery staff of ghostly experiences in Elmwood have been documented.
Voices From The Past is a unique living history event that tells the stories of our founding fathers, civic leaders, pioneering women, and a few interesting characters. Guests are invited to take a "spirited stroll" through Charlotte’s historic cemeteries and interact with portrayers as they tell the stories of the men and women who maked Charlotte what it is today.
Voices From The Past launched in 2017 by The Mecklenburg Historical Association (MHA). Starting with the 2023 event, the MHA turned the event over to Historic Elmwood Pinewood Inc. (HEPI), to be used as a fundraiser to preserve, restore and enhance these historic cemeteries.
The Historic Elmwood Pinewood, Inc. (HEPI), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit dedicated to preserving, restoring, enhancing, and sharing the original historic and park-like atmosphere of Elmwood Pinewood and Settlers’ Cemeteries.
In the 19th-century cemeteries were purposely designed for dual-use. Easter and Halloween parades were held in Elmwood. Families had picnics and children played in the green space.
We at HEPI believe that, in concert with the City, can provide a safe, friendly, and serene environment for those interred, those visiting loved ones, and those wanting to learn about our past or just take a break from the hubbub.
