VOICES FROM THE PAST is not a guided tour. It is a living history event unlike anything you've ever been to. With 25 costumed portrayers in Elmwood and Pinewood Cemeteries and another half dozen at Settlers' Cemetery, you will stroll from one to another at your own pace. Our handout program will help you plan your day. Should the weather become an issue, too hot, or raining, we have tents throughout the cemetery. Please be aware that some gravesites require walking on uneven grounds.

What time should I come?
Good question! We encourage you to arrive early and enjoy listening to the interesting stories at your own pace. We apologize that we have so many stories to tell that they cannot all be heard in one visit. Our solution: Come back next year!
Rain or Shine?
Yes. However, the City of Charlotte has the last word due to weather and safety concerns that may require the closure of the cemetery. Sorry, no refunds, but we do appreciate your donation. :)
Is this a family event?
Yes, especially with children who have studied North Carolina or American history in school. Afterall, we are celebrating American's 250th Anniversary this year. Younger children will simply enjoy being outdoors. But with that being said, parents you may want to make this an adult outing.
May I bring my dog?
Of course. All three cemeteries are "park-like" and are very popular for dog walkers. However, please be mindful that animal urine deteriorates the tombstones.
